Washington's First Poet Laureate
Gov. Chris Gregoire today announced that she has named Samuel Green as the Washington State Poet Laureate, a position established by the Legislature this year to build awareness and appreciation of poetry across the state, a news release said.
Green, who lives on Waldron Island, is a native of Washington.
He has served as editor of a small press focusing on the work of Washington poets for more than 30 years.
Yay, Sam!

A fine choice!
My friend, Dave Lee, often talks about his time reading his poetry on Waldron Island. It's one of his favorite places.
I just realized that Dave had Sam out to SUU for a semester, and he actually took the time to look at a few of my poems, even though I wasn't in one of his classes. Weird.
Yes, a great choice!
An excellent choice. This is an exciting time for poets and poetry in Washington State. I can hardly wait for Sam to begin!
