The Dog Whisperer

I love watching Cesar Millan's dog training show. It is simply fascinating, his approach to dogs. How he gets even the most out-of-control poodle into a "calm submissive state" with just a little "sssss." Note: It even works on people. Just try it at work! haha

The other night he was working with a young gay couple and their three tiny yipping nipping out-of-control chiuaua mixes. I nearly died laughing when he said to them, referring to how to be the "pack leader:" "I'm not being mean, I'm just topping you."

For me, the hardest part of following Cesar Milan's suggestions is not rewarding excited behavior. When a dog is overjoyed and jumping around with excitement because you have come home, the inclination is to celebrate WITH the dog, not ignore it until it acts calm.

My husband loves this show. We don't even have a dog.

Suzanne: same here. We have no pets (though Dean used to raise and show Great Danes) but I just love this show. And I really think some of his techniques can be used on people. to great effect. hehehe

Peter-

When's he on? What channel? My shepherd and I are in great need of him.

Esther: I don't know the schedule. Just google his name or "Dog Whisperer" and I'm sure you will find it. WHo knows, maybe you and your shepherd can be on the show?
