Bequest to creative writing program is largest ever for UW College of Arts & Sciences
"This planned gift from the S. Wilson and Grace M. Pollock Foundation will mean appointment of more award-winning writers as faculty, and additional recruitment of the very best students," said Ron Irving, interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
The creative writing program, already among the top 10 in the country, will eventually be named for Grace Milliman Pollock."
Wow. That's a lot of green. Perhaps they will create a new "physician-poet" faculty position? I'm just saying . . .

Do you think they could find a place for a certified medical language specialist/poetry student in dire need of funds to continue her studies?
I'm just saying...too.
P: Yes. They should definitely find a place for you, and a full ride. *wink*
I guess that shows up ASU's paltry $10 million gift!
wow. when they announce the doctor-poet fellowship and medical-language-specialist-poet fellowships, perhaps they'll reveal their writer-in-debt grant.
i love to read of things like this. i hope they use the money to provide tuition and stipends for their students.

did anything like that happen at asu?
Seriously, Charlie. . .
A.D., yes, ASU was bequeathed a tidy sum of money for things like The Piper Center
Heck, with that kind of cash all the students in the MFA program should get funded, yeah?
i would hope so.
Somebody needs to start up a librarian-poet fellowship, darnit. Or a couch-potato-poet fellowship. Either one will work. I'm not picky.
We could only be so lucky for UW to create something as visionary as the Piper Center. *fingers crossed*
I hope that they finally start funding the Seattle Review. When I was a board member, we were constanty scrounging for ways to fundraise because UW gave them very little money.
Ooh, they could start a library for poetry - and a funded reading series?
PS - Superhero poet-ambassador position?
A: Librarian-poet-fellowship. Natch.
J: Super-hero(ine)-poet-ambassador. I'm with you.
