Seattle man who helped launch Microsoft left $65M for gay rights.

Wow. What an inspiring story, but also very sad.

I guess it's really true that money alone can't make you happy. Or that giving is better than receiving. What do you do with your life, how do you *spend* your time, your money?

"With Weiland's gift, Pride becomes the largest such foundation in the country.

Weiland's other beneficiaries include Lakeside High School, Stanford University, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the United Way, The Nature Conservancy and three other environmental groups."

Ahh . . . imagine if he had thrown a bone or two to a small poetry press or local literary magazine.

Yes, Peter, a bone or two would have had a tremendous impact. I can only imagine what the Seattle Literary, or Arts scene would be like if the Gates Foundation were to grant an endowment of, say $20M to 4Culture, what an impact that would have on the community for decades to come.

It was good to see you yesterday. I should have known that a Doctor would have info on oxycotin. I always see you as a poet, so your Doctor side, when it comes out in situations like that, sometimes catches me off guard.

Be well.

I was happy to read about him leaving all that money to worthy causes, esp. after the sadness surrounding his suicide. It is too bad none went to literature, but you can't fault him for helping the organizations he believed in. That's putting your money where your mouth is.

I agree Collin. No fault at all. He did some pretty amazing stuff.
