Barcelona!

Dean and I are looking forward to leaving Saturday for a little trip to Spain. We'll spend 5 days in Barcelona, and 5 days in Seville. Half our time in the edgy arty hedonistic place of Gaudi and Picasso; and half in the old Spain of bull fights and cathedrals and monasteries. We are looking forward to a really relaxing and fun time. We have both been working too hard lately! Thanks to KW and BL who will be watching the house while we are gone.

You lucky man! I'm dying to go abroad again and Spain is at the top of my list. Have fun, take photos, write beautiful poems.

Boy voyage,

I'm jealous! Gaudi is the reason I am sticking with architecture in school! Have fun man!

I'm sure you will have fantastic time in Barcelona. When I went to Barcelona, I expected it to be very touristy, but didn't find that to be the case. It could be that by timing my visit in March, I avoided a lot of the hokiest stuff especially in hotels in Barcelona, though in my 20 minutes on las Ramblas I managed to see people wearing sombreros!
Barcelona reminded me a lot of more northern European cities. My understanding is that Barcelona is economically the most prosperous city in Spain and that may have something to do with it. My readings in Spanish History have also led me to conclude that Barcelona and Valencia also form the industrial backbone of modern Spain and have for some time.
